Comprehensive Curriculum

SMC Academy LLC’s course follows the AAPC-developed CPC curriculum. Medical Terminology is provided as a review chapter, and anatomy content is embedded within each body system chapter as it applies to ICD-10-CM and CPT coding. This course does not include separate anatomy or medical terminology classes. Anatomy and medical terminology are taught as part of the coding curriculum and are not offered as standalone courses.
Tutoring Options

We offer two tutoring options that provide supplemental instruction in medical coding concepts and guidelines. Tutoring is available to students from any training program and is not part of an AAPC course or certification program. Tutoring services are supplemental in nature and do not constitute formal coursework, certification, or exam eligibility.
How Instruction Works at SMC Academy

SMC Academy offers a 100% online, self-paced medical coding training program with individualized instructor support through email.

There are no scheduled classes, live lectures, or required virtual meetings.

Students independently read the AAPC curriculum, watch prerecorded lectures, and complete assignments at their own pace.

How Do You Receive Instruction?

When you encounter something you don’t understand, email your instructor with your questions. Your instructor will work with you individually to explain difficult concepts, answer questions, and help you develop a better understanding of the material.

These email conversations create a personalized study resource that you can reference throughout your training.
What Is Expected of Students?

Students must be self-motivated, manage their time effectively, and actively communicate when they need assistance.

Your instructor is available to help, but students are responsible for initiating communication when they have questions or encounter difficulties.

This learning format is designed for individuals who need flexibility while developing the independent research, problem-solving, and communication skills used in the medical coding profession.
Instructor Availability

Our program prioritizes timely instructor support to ensure students receive the guidance they need throughout the course. Student emails are answered within 24 hours Monday through Thursday and within 48 to 72 hours Friday through Sunday.

I was a little nervous putting my faith into a program I found through social media, but I am so happy that I did! Instructor Lora was a huge help every step of the way! Not only was she super helpful, she’s also incredibly kind and truly cared about my success in the program. The course is structured in steps that makes learning a whole new skill feel manageable.
